During those years, many Chinese families, grandparents and young children alike, would enjoy eating the local delicacy ‘Ang Ku Kueh’, which has a red tortoise shell design and is filled with popular traditional fillings like mung bean paste or peanut paste. Also, back then, children did not have iPads or iPhones for games or Youtube, and many of us would play hide-and-seek, scaring one another at HDB (Housing Development Board) void decks and playgrounds, and even in our own HDB homes and staircase landings.These beautiful memories of our childhood innocence have inspired the composer Peng Chi Sheng, one third of Lim Tay Peng, to pen this song with “Ang Ku Kueh” as one of the main themes in the song. The Chinese New Year Festival is one of the most celebrated festivals in all Chinese-speaking societies, where families go all out to celebrate with one another, organising family reunions and gatherings with friends to spread the festive cheer. However, instead of being practical-minded Singaporeans and counting (數來數去) the money in our Chinese New Year red packets, we would like to suggest that we spend more time counting the wonderful memories that we have collected since young, and also wish our loved ones countless blessings in the coming Lunar New Year!《 數一數二，數個 Happy New Year 》 is LimTayPeng 2nd Chinese New Year Song. Their 1st original Chinese New Year song composition was the song, 《 撈魚生 》, which was commissioned by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) in the year 2019. Once again, Chi Sheng looked for long-time collaborator, lyricist Lynn Lee who has written《 撈魚生 》to pen this Chinese New Year lyrics.
