星河旅館

Comprising 13 numbers, it adds to mixed chorus, which the Rainbow Chamber Singers apparently excels at, a multitude of devices including sampling, narration, and instrumental music in various styles. Divided in parts and roles, the chorus tells the story. Sometimes it navigates through the orchestral texture for subtle details; sometimes it strives with it for overwhelmingly passionate outbursts. Orchestral grandeur is interspersed with occasional sounds from electronic sources and rare instruments, conjuring up a wonderful encounter that falls between illusion and reality. This is the newly evolved form of choral music the Rainbow Chamber Singers has created. The story is set in 1982. After the decease of his father and the departure of his wife, the protagonist, now completely left alone and mired in profound despair, drives aimlessly in the northernmost area, until he arrives at a strange tavern. It does not accommodate human beings, and guests are admitted only by sharing their memories. With an eccentric keeper and many oddball guests, as well as a consequential choice between “remember” and “forget”, a 90-minute wondrous journey now begins. The place called “Star River Tavern” allows the protagonist, who is lost and in anguish, to find himself, to recover and be healed. -- Jin Chengzhi For this release, we issue not only a stereo version that suits all kinds of playback devices, but also a Dolby Atmos version online.
