The songs featured in this album are titled [Hometown. Travel. Poems. Songs.] as they were composed and recorded in my hometown of Taiwan, as well as during my extensive travels and periods of residence in the United States. Most of the recordings from the 1990s were produced in American recording studios. Additionally, several songs recorded after 2010 were created during my visits to Taiwan, which occurred every two to three years. On May 31, 2016, the "Yang Xian-Review Concert of Poetry Song Works of Wanderers Returning Home" took place, organized by the Chinese Musicians Exchange Association in collaboration with the Taipei Sun Yet-San Hall. During this event, the association invited me, along with numerous singers, narrators, musicians, and dancers, to participate in a concert featuring 24 songs. This performance can be considered the culmination of my entire concert career. The way the public engages with music has undergone significant transformation due to advancements in technology. Historically, listeners primarily accessed music through records, audio tapes, and subsequently CDs, before transitioning to digital formats such as MP3s, which facilitate easy distribution via computers. It is evident that sales of optical discs have declined markedly compared to two decades ago. Although the songs I have composed to date are slated for individual digital release in the future, I maintain that CDs offer a more convenient means of storing and enjoying high-quality audio. Between 1992 and 2024, I systematically completed the recording of songs that I had composed over the years. Additionally, I recorded several early unpublished works, which included revised compositions and newly added lyrics in 2016. A total of thirteen songs were compiled and recorded. The publication of these songs coincides with the approaching 50th anniversary of the revival of modern folk music in Taiwan, which can be interpreted as a reflection of my early advocacy for the modern folk song movement. This collection also features numerous poems authored by myself, alongside works by other poets, including Kwang-chung Yu, Ya Xian, Mu-Jung Hsi, Yuhong Chen, and Luo Men. Some poems have been enhanced with harmonies and interludes to align with my personal interpretation of poetry, thereby enriching the musical compositions and their accompanying arrangements. Many of these poems convey themes of healing and comfort, with the intention of providing both the audience and myself with a sense of solace in this tumultuous and melancholic era. In contrast to the intense emotions typically found in mainstream pop songs, some of the more tranquil and leisurely poems have been categorized within the poetry segment of modern folk songs. I aspire for future lyricists and composers to continue to explore the expansive potential of modern folk music. For the release of this CD, Wind Music has been invited as the publishing company, recognized for its nearly 40 years of experience in music publishing and its commitment to promoting spiritual and specialized music. The promotion of this compact disc and digital music is scheduled for release in anticipation of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of modern folk songs. This collection consists of songs that I have either newly recorded or re-recorded over the past thirty years, subsequent to the release of my folk song album five decades ago.
