In the 1940s, due to the harsh living conditions of the old era, my 10-year-old grandfather moved with his family from Jiangning Road in Shanghai to Hong Kong. They initially planned to stay in Hong Kong for a year or two before returning to Shanghai, but later learned that their house in Shanghai had been demolished. Therefore, they chose to settle in Hong Kong. After selling all their valuable belongings, my grandfather's family was completely bankrupt when he was 13 years old, and he had to drop out of school to work. He once earned 1,600 Hong Kong dollars in the 1960s, sending all his earnings back home to support his family. As a grown man, he met my grandmother and together they started from scratch in the leather shoe business. They saved money for many years and finally bought their own house in Hong Kong's Fortress Hill in 1983, where my mother and her younger sister were born. My grandparents were both from Chaozhou, Guangdong. During the Japanese occupation of Guangzhou in 1938, they fled from Chaozhou, Guangdong, to Hong Kong amidst the war. This couple had a total of nine children, including my father. When my father was 16 years old, my grandfather passed away, leaving my grandmother to raise the nine children alone. Their living conditions deteriorated significantly, and my father and his siblings had to enter the workforce before reaching adulthood. Thanks to the rapid economic development in Hong Kong at that time, many locals became wealthy effortlessly. My father and his brother's business also prospered, reaching an annual income of over a million yuan. However, no one anticipated that the wealth obtained quickly would not teach the父辈们 to save. Instead, my uncle developed bad habits due to the sudden wealth, gradually lost himself in the game of winning and losing, and eventually squandered all the family's money. This led to a破裂 in my father's relationship with his brother for many years. During these events, my father met my mother, both from self-reliant families in Hong Kong. After getting to know each other for some time, they decided to start a business together in gift design. They earned some money during those years and eventually entered a marriage that lasted more than ten years. Although my mother eventually decided to divorce, they had me and my younger brother before their separation. In 2010, my mother, along with me at the age of 10 and my younger brother at the age of 3, moved to Shanghai to live. The experiences gained in the following years became the main inspiration for my music creation. This album, "Hong Kong Don," is my first official studio album in life. It represents my roots in Hong Kong, my ancestral home in Guangdong, all the experiences I've had with my family so far, and also signifies my growth over the past three years in Chengdu, Sichuan. The featured guests include Vinida Weng (Wan Nida) from Fuzhou, KIV from Zhuhai, Lihe from Shenzhen, YHL from Foshan, as well as my fellow countrymen Novel Fergus and Cantonese opera singer Sum Yung. These are the people and places that have made me feel a sense of familiarity and belonging in this unfamiliar world. The word "Don" originates from Italy, meaning the "head of the family" or "godfather," and it's the energy I want to represent. I will be the one in my family to lead us back to prosperity, regain our wealth, and preserve it for generations. I am an artist, a musician, and a businessman. I will become the next superstar from Hong Kong, China, and the next name to represent Chinese rap on the world stage. This album is a part of my soul and the first step on this path I've chosen.
