The album “Confluence” shares the same name with the musical composition “Confluence” composed by Chung Yiu-Kwong for Taoyuan Chinese Orchestra. This is the first time that the Taoyuan Chinese Orchestra cooperates with Mr. Chung Yiu-Kwong. The musical composition is performed by pianist Fan-Chiang Yi and the recording was completed in June 2019. The meaning of “Confluence” is multiple. From the perspective of genre, the traditional Chinese music elements, the genre of Hakka hill songs, and the folk music of indigenous people are combined into a lively, delicate and rich melody. As to the level of the performance, not only the cultural characteristics of the diverse ethnic groups in Taoyuan, but also the phenomena of the intertwining and blending of different musical styles of various ethnic groups have been transformed and interwoven into a new musical landscape in Taoyuan. The “Hakka Overture” in the album was commissioned by the Hakka Culture Festival in 2011. The melody of the music alternates between the Hakka “Song of the Hills” and the "December Ancient Tunes" of the Hakka Minor. The atmosphere of lively and joy embodies the diverse and inclusive vitality of the Hakka ethnic group. The percussion concerto “Get out of Tujia” uses the changes in the rhythm of the percussion instrument and the majestic momentum to release the energy and vitality of Hakka ethnic and the land. Chung Yiu-Kwong is a daring, meticulous musician with clear music style. He leads the young, brave innovative Taoyuan Chinese Orchestra. In the performance, he broke through the boundaries and framework of traditional music and showed strong and professional energy in music. This is the confluence of old and new energy and generational experience. "Confluence" recorded the very moment, and passes down from generation to generation. Taoyuan City Orchestra is a professional orchestra affiliated to the "Taoyuan Cultural Foundation". It was completed at the end of 2018. On February 23, 2019, the composer Chung Yiu-Kwon personally directed the Taoyuan City Orchestra and Fan-Chiang Yi served as a piano solo to make the premiere performance. The music is divided into three movements. The first movement is a lively allegro. The materials for the movement come from beiguan “Spring around" and the traditional Chinese music "Lao liuban". This movement can be regarded as the variations of these two themes; the orchestrator is plain and simple, but light and diversified. The second movement is a calm andante. The melody is Hakka folk song style. The third movement is an allegro full of vitality. The materials of this movement come from Atayal people's “Song Of Joy”. The motive of song of joy is deconstructed and recombined by computer. Finally, the music was pushed to the climax by beiguan's “thousand years old”.
